From Chalkboard to Tech Boardroom: My Journey into Product & Marketing

When I look back at how it all started, it almost feels unreal. I began my career as a teacher in a government school in Abuja. At that time, I had little knowledge about the tech world, product management, or marketing. All I knew was that I wanted more for myself, and I was willing to learn.

The early days were not easy. With little to no experience, I often felt lost. I made mistakes—many of them. But instead of giving up, I used those mistakes as lessons. I took online courses, read articles, studied successful people, and spent hours understudying how things worked in tech and business. Slowly, I started to see progress.

The real turning point came when iRecharge Tech Innovations gave me a chance. That opportunity changed everything. I went from just having book knowledge to gaining real, practical experience. I learned how products are built, how customers think, and how marketing can shape a company’s success. Step by step, I grew into product management, and eventually, I became the Head of Product and Marketing at a leading AI tech company Tegence AI.

This role has stretched me, challenged me, and helped me become more confident in my skills. But my story doesn’t end here. I am still growing, still learning, and still writing new chapters. Today, I am also building my personal brand through Maryam Tajudeen The Agency, where I help others navigate marketing, branding, and digital growth.

Lessons I have learnt

If there’s one thing my story has taught me, it’s this:

  • You don’t need to have it all figured out before you start.

  • Mistakes are not the end—they are stepping stones.

  • Sometimes, all it takes is one open door to change your life forever.

I started from a classroom in Abuja, but today I’m standing in rooms I once only dreamed of. And this is only the beginning. My story is still being written, but I hope it inspires someone out there who feels stuck or unqualified. Your background does not define your destination.
